You will make your own way to Bowen Island, where I reside, and meet at one of my favorite beaches to hunt for beautiful beach treasure, seaglass! Winter is the best time for this, as stormy seas wash up tumbled smooth glass from years past. I'll share my knowledge of seaglass rarity and the best ways to search for it. You may walk away with handfuls, or only one perfect piece, but that one piece will make the hunt worth it! You will also go home with a one of a kind 5x7 Seaglass Art piece that you can frame, and keep a bit of Bowen with you. This could be the start of a lifelong collection, or lead to a creative outlet of seaglass crafts and jewelry. This is a wonderful family activity, as long as you don't mind the west coast rain! If you are not staying on Bowen Island please note that Bowen is a 20 minute ferry ride from the Horseshoe Bay ferry terminal in West Vancouver. Ticket purchases are cut off 15 minutes before each sailing. The ferry runs every hour with the exception of a two hr break between 12:30-2pm. No car? You can take the bus to the ferry and walk on, then take the land taxi to the beach, hitchhike (its encouraged here) or walk (will take about 25m) Ferry Fares: Adult $10.45 Child $5.25 Car $29.60 Please contact me for more info
I have been collecting seaglass for years and since moving to Bowen Island have become a bit obsessed! I have even started Bowen Seaglass, selling seaglass jewelry and art. I love sharing this passion with friends and family, and find children particularly love this activity. For me nothing quite compares to finding that rare piece of seaglass and researching its origins!
We will visit September Morn Beach on Bowen Island, a 20 minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. If this beach is not as easy to access or not producing enough seaglass, we will visit either Cate's Bay or Eaglecliff Beach. These beaches bring untold inspiration for me and have steered me into a new career. I am excited to share this experience with you!
