We will start off with a local market visit near the cooking venue in the morning and observe the various livelihoods along the way. You will be given a glimpse of what the local ingredients, spices, and typical herbs are used by other native inhabitants on their daily menu. The market tour will also provide a chance for you to pick your own selection of ingredients for the cooking class. After that, we will begin to prepare fresh vegetables, meats, fruits, and seasoning to bring your dishes to life. This will be accompanied with conversations which I thoroughly enjoy. I love to share stories and also hear them in return, and most of the time, this is what I most enjoy from my time with my guests. During the class, we sometimes anticipate having an improvised recipe based on your taste and preferences and it's perfectly fine to add your own twist! 4 hours is never enough to complete this activity for a full local culinary experience but I do my best to share everything with my guests
I have been a professional certified guide in the beautiful town of Yogyakarta for the last 9 years and an avid foodie for much longer. My favorite type of tours are the ones that involve food where my two biggest passion of sharing Javanese culture with the world & of food come together! I started the first street food tour in Yogyakarta and run tours on a daily basis with partnerships with hotels/hostels/guesthouses. I was also approached by Netflix for their latest series 'Streetfood' where Yogyakarta is featured as one of their episodes. I was a 'fixer' of sorts for the crew. The kitchen is also where I am most comfortable and I enjoy the input into my craft but esp enjoy the output in the form of hearty traditional meals I cook for my family and for my traveling guests.

The meeting point will be at my house and after everybody has been on-site, we will be off to the local market around the Sultan Palace area, which takes 15 minutes by car. Along the way, we will be passing by many common public areas and local neighborhood. After the grocery which is mostly done only in the market, we will drive back to my house and proceed the cooking class in a traditional wooden Javanese house (Limasan & Joglo)
