ENJOY OSAKA SOUL FOODS AND AUTHENTIC LOCAL FAVORITES AS YOU DISCOVER UNIQUE AREAS OF OSAKA! Osaka is called the "Kitchen of Japan" because of its abundance of delicious foods and restaurants and is one of the great food cities and cities of the world. On this tour, we will experience why. We start in Dotonbori, Osaka's leading 'foodie' shopping district and finish in Shinsekai, Osaka's 'deep' retro entertainment district. Along the way, during this walking and eating tour, a hidden temple, winding alleyways, backstreets, and unique areas of Osaka will be seen. Some areas only locals know about and are hard to find without a guide. We will learn about Osaka and have the chance to eat some of Osaka's favorite foods and try some off-menu food and drink items too. Osaka is full of life with its friendly people, busy shopping streets, bright lights, sights, and sounds. But it can be confusing the first time around. Don't waste your time trying to find everything on your own and getting lost. I can save you time and trouble so you can enjoy the sights as we stop at a mixture of local 'Izakaya' style Japanese pubs, restaurants, and food stalls. I will be happy to provide recommendations for all tastes and dietary needs. I am also flexible about the number of stops we make. We will experience Osaka to the fullest in its local, culinary, historical, amusing, and even taboo forms.
I came to Osaka in 1998, intending to stay a few months but enjoying Japan I never left. I soon found out why Osaka has an expression "eat until you drop" as there are shops and restaurants everywhere, and everyone loves their food. The choice of foods and the variety of places to eat is great, but it can be overwhelming. I can offer you suggestions, a unique perspective, and share local knowledge with you about Osaka's food and culture often missed or overlooked. There is more to Osaka than just great food. With a master's degree in Japanese Studies and by living in Japan for over 20 years, I have come to a sincere appreciation of Japanese culture and a better understanding of Japanese society. Let's discover and enjoy Osaka together. *Contact Tim to check availability for dates and times not listed.
